Alder Burl

Alder Burl is not a species of tree, it is a growth found on trees of this species (Alnus). These growths cause significant changes in the arrangement of wood fibers and its grain pattern, and lead to the formation of characteristic complex patterns, such as spots, small knots or swirling grain structures. Despite changes in structure, the wood remains healthy.
Thanks to such a fascinating combination of colors and textures, this material is highly appreciated among designers and sculptors.

Due to their heterogeneous structure, burls are characterized by irregular strength. Therefore, it is important to stabilize them (strengthening by impregnation with synthetic resin) in the case of small wooden items.
