Maple Burl is not a species of tree, it is a growth found on maple trees. These growths cause significant changes in the arrangement of wood fibers and its grain pattern, and lead to the formation of characteristic complex patterns, such as spots, small knots or swirling grain structures. Despite changes in the structure, the wood is not damaged.
Thanks to such a fascinating combination of colors and textures, this material is highly appreciated among designers and sculptors.
Due to their heterogeneous structure, burls are characterized by irregular strength. Therefore, it is important to stabilize them (strengthening by impregnation with synthetic resin) in the case of small wooden items.
